Here's how we do "Merry and Bright" in Key West

12/4/2017

It's all about beach umbrellas with umbrella drinks.

I talked to a friend in Virginia today who said the temp there this morning is 28 degrees. Yikes!

It's beach weather and happy hour here! Come on down.

I've decorated my studio for the holidays with these festive paintings!  They were a joy to paint.

Stay warm,
hugs,
Maggie

They survived the storm!

We're very fond of our roosters, hens and chicks here in Key West.  I'm happy to say that they are still with us, looking good and stopping traffic when they cross the street with their brood of peeps.  #toocute

What didn't survive hurricane Irma?
Our September!

All the cool things that happen every September got blown away.  One of those things is all the really fun specials that local businesses have for their loyal and local customers.

I had a September Special all set to go..............

Loyal customers still deserve something special.  I've turned my September Special into a Hurricane Irma Sale (let's call it what it is)

There's a wonderful tradition in Key West where every September the local businesses honor the local residents by offering all kinds of wonderful specials on their products. In that same spirit I'm doing the same.

Summer Palm Painting

Hot summer palms

There's a kind of palm tree here in Key West that has a really skinny trunk.  They're whacky and fun to look at.  I was never sure about the name of them until I googled them just a minute ago.  Google says they are Carpentaria Palms.

Anyway, in my painting class last week I showed my students how to start a painting with a lot of drips. You get some drips flowing down your canvas or paper and  when they dry you take out your artistic license and turn them into something fun. I turned my drips and splatters into those "skinny palms" I'm fascinated with. (I learned this technique from artist Robert Burridge.)

I also started a drips and blobs painting that's going to be sailboats,

I've got the jitters............

I've been nominate for a Bubba Award this year, "Best Artist"! The awards event is tonight.  It's a great event for charity and community support.  I've got some tough completion.  The last time I was nominated I lost to the world famous artist Wyland.  Everyone knows people with just one name are cooler.

Anyway, I'll find out later.................#fingerscrossed

Update:

I didn't win.  Congratulations to Rick Worth, a very hard working talented Key West artist.

Thank you!

Thank you to all the fine people who came to my opening at the Key West Art Center and Gallery to see my show, Tropical Summer.  It was fun to see some people I hadn't seen in quite awhile.
You can see some of the paintings in the show right here on my website.

I really had fun creating some new work on paper for the show.  The paper pieces are in a crisp white mat and ready to frame.
