There's a wonderful tradition in Key West where every September the local businesses honor the local residents by offering all kinds of wonderful specials on their products. In that same spirit I'm doing the same.

Hot summer palms
There's a kind of palm tree here in Key West that has a really skinny trunk. They're whacky and fun to look at. I was never sure about the name of them until I googled them just a minute ago. Google says they are Carpentaria Palms.
Anyway, in my painting class last week I showed my students how to start a painting with a lot of drips. You get some drips flowing down your canvas or paper and when they dry you take out your artistic license and turn them into something fun. I turned my drips and splatters into those "skinny palms" I'm fascinated with. (I learned this technique from artist Robert Burridge.)
